IMPALA’s fifteen anniversary – shining a light on young labels

To celebrate IMPALA’s 15 years anniversary, various initiatives took places across Europe under the “IMPALA 15” banner including interviews, special editions of IMPALA awards, a new project putting the spotlight on young labels and other events.

The theme of the year is key to IMPALA’s mission of growing the independent sector – being young and independent.

IMPALA 15 projects included FIVEUNDERFIFTEEN a campaign where five young labels are announced every month in The Independent Echo, with features, interviews, playlists and snippets of the local music scenes.

IMPALA also launched a special edition of the critically acclaimed IMPALA Album of the Year where all nominees were released by labels fifteen years or younger. The winner was José González with his album Vestiges and Claws released by Stockholm-based Imperial Recordings.

Partners include the Amsterdam Dance Event, Eurosonic Noorderslag, Tallinn Music Week, Westway Lab, Classical Next, Primavera, MIDEM, Reeperbahn, Music Week, Entertainment Business, Muisc Woche, and the Independent Echo.
