EUROPEAN INDEPENDENTS CONGRATULATE SUGAR MUSIC FOR BOCELLI’S SUCCESS

Milan, 23 November 2018

IMPALA, the European organisation of Independent music companies in Europe, congratulated Sugar Music and its team for the extraordinary achievement of a number 1 in the album charts at the same time in the USA and the UK with Andrea Bocelli’s “Si”.

IMPALA held its board meeting this week in Milan at the conference Linecheck, hosted by the Italian independents’ association PMI.  Sugar Music participated in the meeting and was congratulated by the whole IMPALA board.

IMPALA President Kees van Weijen chaired the meeting, commenting: “What an achievement for a European Independent record label. This has not happened in years and we are proud this is coming from our member Sugar Music.”

Filippo Sugar, owner of Sugar Music, commented: “I would like to thank Andrea, his amazing fans across the world and all of the team that worked together with Sugar Music to make this great record and achieve such a superb result”.

IMPALA Executive Chair Helen Smith continued: “It’s great to be in Milan just as Sugar attains this level of success. We haven’t seen this since Adele. Thanks also to PMI for hosting us here at Linecheck.”

Francesca Trainini, Chair of PMI, concluded: “Linecheck is a great event and we had a very constructive board meeting yesterday with IMPALA. Sugar Music’s achievement is a fantastic result for the independent sector in Europe and of course Italy.”

About IMPALA

IMPALA was established in April 2000 to represent European independent music companies. 99% of Europe’s music companies are SMEs. Known as the “independents”, they are world leaders in terms of innovation and discovering new music and artists – they produce more than 80% of all new releases and account for 80% of the sector’s jobs (for more information, see the features of independents). IMPALA’s mission is to grow the independent music sector, return more value to artists, promote cultural diversity and entrepreneurship, improve political access and modernise perceptions of the music sector.
