IMPALA unveils Digital Forward: a new initiative to empower independent music companies in the digital age
Brussels, 31 March 2025
IMPALA is taking its digital strategy to the next level with Digital Forward, a new initiative designed to equip independent music companies with the insights they need to navigate the ever-evolving digital landscape. Developed in cooperation with Complete Music Update (CMU) as part of IMPALA’s new programme of work co-funded by the EU for the next four years, the project will provide IMPALA members with in-depth intelligence on streaming, digital trends, market dynamics, emerging business models and more.
Building on the success of IMPALA’s previous projects Digital Forward takes a new approach with a series of practical reports and webinars featuring industry experts.
“The digital landscape is constantly shifting, and independent labels, whether big or small, need the right tools and insights to compete,” said Helen Smith, Executive Chair of IMPALA. “With Digital Forward, we’re ensuring that our members get the right information at the right time to make the most of key digital developments, no matter their size. IMPALA is proud to be recognised as an EU network representing Europe’s independent music companies – this project is a great example of things we can do with such support”.
Dan Waite, CEO of Better Noise Music and Chair of IMPALA’s Digital Committee, added: “From new social media algorithms to evolving streaming models, independent labels face a rapidly changing environment. Digital Forward will provide practical intelligence to help members adapt, grow, and take full advantage of digital opportunities. This initiative is all about making sure independents have access to the latest insights in a way that’s tailored to their needs”.
Chris Cooke, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Complete Music Update, commented: “The digital music market continues to evolve rapidly, creating both challenges and opportunities. Independent music businesses are always keen to innovate and adapt in order to meet the challenges and capitalise on the opportunities but need access to the latest information and insights to make that happen. Providing that kind of support was a key part of IMPALA’s One Step Ahead and, with Digital Forward, we’ll be providing even more practical advice and tailored expertise”.
