IMPALA - interview with Album of the Year Award winners Viagra Boys

How would you describe your band and your music?

A huge variety of individuals and hence the music the same. We try not to get labeled. Wow, that’s unique haha.

How did you get started?

Henrik (bass) saw Sebastian singing karaoke and decided there and then that they should start a band. Then Henrik called Benjamin, already playing together in Pig Eyes and Nitad and then Tor came along for the drumming. It wasn’t more exciting than that.

What inspired this album?

Wow, too many influences to mention, but it felt like a natural step after the previous EPs. We’re happy how it turned out and the overwhelming positive response we’ve got

How does it feel to win the IMPALA Award for European Independent Album of the Year?

Feels very good, thank you! Always humbling to get recognition.

What is your relationship with your label?

We work very close with our management and label and we’re in contact almost every day. We are very happy working with them.

Was it important for you to sign on an independent label?

Well, the most important thing for us was to start working with a label that we knew would put in a lot of effort and love to the band. YEAR0001 have provided a fun and creative way of being a band.

What’s next?

We’re currently on a North American tour and as soon as we’re back home we’ll start working on a new album, and doing shows in Sweden during the weekends and in May we’ll tour the UK and the summer is starting to get booked now, so we’ll spend next year on couples therapy. Fun times!
